The Cobalt Apex features what Japanese scissor masters call the YL design—a specialised blade geometry that’s prized for its exceptional cutting power and precision.

The foundation is the Hamaguri-ha (clam shell) convex edge, which provides extraordinary sharpness while maintaining structural integrity. What makes the Apex special is how Japanese craftsmen have enhanced this design with reinforced cutting power at the tip.

In traditional Japanese scissor making, this is known as “刃先のカット力” (Hasaki no katto-ryoku) or “cutting power at the blade tip”—a prized characteristic specifically for scissors used in precision work.

This specialised geometry creates an exceptionally powerful cutting action at the tip—the area most used for precision techniques and detailed work. The result is a scissors that cuts with authority through even the most resistant hair types.

“I’ve been using the Cobalt Apex scissors in my Sydney salon for nearly 6 months. As someone who specialises in precision cutting and technical shapes, these have become my absolute go-to.

The first thing you notice is that incredible tip strength. When you’re working on detailed sections or doing point cutting, these just bite through the hair with no resistance whatsoever. For clients with particularly thick or coarse hair, they’re a complete game-changer.
