The Wasabi Classic is the Kai Group’s invitation into real Japanese scissors — made in Japan, finished by experienced craftsmen, and priced where a second-year barber or a budget-conscious shop can justify it. Kai has been forging blades since 1908, and that lineage shows in how cleanly this entry-level shear is put together.

The blades are drop-forged in a two-piece process and ground to a hollow semi-convex profile: sharper and smoother through the hair than the bevel-edge scissors most apprentices start on, but more forgiving — and cheaper to maintain — than a full convex flagship. In practice that means clean blunt cutting on perimeters, comfortable scissor-over-comb in the longer sizes, and an edge that a local sharpener can service without drama.

The traditional straight handle suits classic barbering technique, with full rotation around the thumb for over-comb work, and the detachable finger rest lets you run it bare if that is your preference. A flat-head tension screw makes adjustment simple mid-shift.
