Not every job in the chair calls for a long blade. The Yasaka S-50 is the short scissor you keep for the finishing third of a haircut — tidying around the ears, squaring a neckline, softening a fringe, and point-cutting texture into the top after the clipper work is done. At 5.0 inches, the blade follows your fingers rather than leading them, which is exactly what you want when you are a few millimetres from a client’s ear.

The S-50 is made in Japan by Yasaka Seiki from ATS-314 cobalt stainless steel, the same alloy used across their professional range. The clam-shaped convex edge slices rather than chops, so detail cuts land cleanly without pushing hair — and the edge keeps doing that for a long time between sharpening services.

The traditional (classic) handle puts both rings in line, suiting barbers who rotate the shear in hand or cut with a palmed, old-school grip. Many barbers trained on classic handles never give them up, and Yasaka builds this one light enough that a symmetrical grip stays comfortable through a full column of clients.

If your main shear is a 6.5” or 7” workhorse, the S-50 is the natural detail partner — small, accurate and forgiving in tight spots.
