Warranty, Sharpening & Servicing
What does the warranty cover?
All shears carry the manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship — typically covering blade alignment, pivot mechanics, and steel integrity under normal professional use. It doesn’t cover drops, corrosion from neglect, or damage from third-party sharpening done badly. See the Warranty page for brand-by-brand terms, and remember Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply on top.
How often should professional shears be sharpened?
A convex-edge Japanese shear in full-time barbershop use typically needs sharpening every 6–12 months — far less often than most barbers assume. Sharpening too early wastes steel; too late and you start pushing hair instead of cutting it. Our guide on how often to sharpen convex shears covers the warning signs.
Who should sharpen a convex edge?
Only a sharpener with convex (hamaguri) equipment and experience. A flat-ground sharpening on a convex blade permanently changes how it cuts. If you’re mailing shears for service, our mail-in sharpening checklist walks through packing, insurance, and what to ask before you ship.
My shears feel off — sharpen or adjust?
Check tension first. If hair folds or pushes at the tips but the blades are visually fine, the pivot tension has likely drifted — a 30-second fix that’s free. The Maintenance SOPs show how to test and set tension properly before paying for sharpening you may not need.
How do I claim a warranty issue?
Contact us via the Contact page with your order reference, photos of the issue, and a short description of when it appeared. We coordinate directly with the distributor or manufacturer so you don’t have to chase anyone overseas.
