Almost every family comes as a cutter, a thinner and a set, so you can build a matching kit over time.
Who Ichiro is for
Apprentices who want a step above entry level, and working barbers who want a sword-blade daily cutter or a matched pair without moving to a premium price. Most Ichiro shears are offset, so they suit barbers who trained with the thumb ring lower than the finger ring.
The Ichiro lines
- Ergo: the apprentice line in stainless alloy steel at 56 to 58 HRC. The Ergo set pairs a 5.5″ convex or 6.0″ micro-serrated cutter with a 6.0″ thinner, and the Ergo apprentice cutter is sold singly.
- Offset: 440C with a sword blade, 5.0″ to 7.0″. The Ichiro Offset cutter is the everyday workhorse, with a matching set, master sets and a 16-tooth texturiser.
- Precision Master and Tsurugi: sword-blade 440C cutters for longer work. The Precision Master runs 5.5″ to 7.0″, and the Tsurugi is a 6.5″ or 7.0″ barber shear for scissor-over-comb.
- Dragon, Kawa and Sakura: 440C cutters with convex or 3D edges, each with a thinner and a set. The Kawa Z-Balance comes in fixed and swivel-thumb versions.
- Finish lines: Rainbow, Ash Gold, Rose Gold, Pastel Pink and Matte Black put the 440C blades under coloured finishes.
- Premium Series: Taiyo and Tsuki in VG10 at 60 to 62 HRC, with sword blades and 15-tooth texturisers.
- Thinners: the Texture Master and the matching thinner in each family.
Price tier
Ichiro is our mid-range. The Ergo apprentice cutter starts the range close to Mina, the 440C lines sit a step above, and the VG10 Premium Series overlaps Juntetsu’s entry VG10 cutters. Sets and master sets cost more than a single cutter but less than buying each tool singly.
Care and servicing
Wipe after each client, oil the pivot at the end of the day and set the tension so the blades close smoothly without the tips crossing hard. Sword and convex edges need a sharpener who works on Japanese edges: we do not sharpen in-house, so use the sharpener questions to choose one. Faults are covered by our warranty.
