Kamisori is a Canadian brand with Japanese-inspired designs; some models are made in Japan. Its cutters and thinners are made from Japanese steels, ATS314, VG10, VG-1 and 440C depending on the line, and many cutters carry a 3D convex edge on an offset handle. The range leans on distinctive shapes: sword-profile blades, double-swivel thumbs and decorative handles and finishes.

Who Kamisori is for

Experienced barbers buying a premium statement pair, who already know the length and handle they cut with. It also suits barbers who want a sword-profile cutter and matching thinner from one line. If you are still settling your technique, learn on an entry-level shear and come back to Kamisori later.

The Kamisori lines

  • Sword: a sword-profile cutter and matching thinner in Kamisori ATS314 Japanese alloy steel. The Kamisori Sword cutting and thinning set is the in-stock way into the range; the single cutter, thinner and a master set are on pre-order.
  • Revolver and Shadow: ATS314 cutters, thinners and sets.
  • Black Diamond and Serenity: VG10 cutters, with a Black Diamond texturiser and set.
  • Jewel: 440C cutters and texturisers in fixed-offset and double-swivel versions.
  • Diablo, Parana and Jade: cobalt alloy cutters and texturisers.
  • Ergo and Kobura: VG-1 cutters.
  • Featherlite: a classic-handle VG10 cutter.

Many of these lines are sold out or on pre-order at any time. Each product page shows the current status, and the range table above lists what is in stock.

Price tier

Kamisori is premium. The Diablo, Jewel and Black Diamond cutters are the entry point, and the Sword, Revolver and Shadow sets and the Jade sit at the top of the range.

Choosing within Kamisori

Choose the blade first. A sword profile gives a long straight cutting line and a fine tip, and the sword blade checks cover what to look for. Then choose the handle: compare fixed and swivel thumbs in the handle guide. For a cutter in the same steels from a range with more in stock, compare Juntetsu and Yasaka.

Care and servicing

Wipe after each client, oil the pivot at the end of the day and store each shear closed in its own slot. On double-swivel models, oil the swivel joint as well as the pivot. Convex edges need a sharpener who works on Japanese convex edges: we do not sharpen in-house, and the sharpener questions help you choose one. Faults are covered by our warranty.

What is Kamisori known for?

Sword-profile blades, a 3D convex edge on many cutters, fixed and double-swivel versions of the Jewel, and decorative handles and finishes. The Kamisori review gives the verdict.

Can I order a Kamisori that shows pre-order?

Not at checkout. A pre-order model can't be bought online yet: ask about it on the product page and we reply by email. The page shows the status of each model and option.

Is Kamisori a good first shear?

No. Kamisori is a premium buy for barbers who know their length and handle. Learn on an entry-level pair, then compare Kamisori with Juntetsu and Yasaka cutters in the same steels.

How do I look after a Kamisori shear?

Wipe it after each client, oil the pivot daily and store it closed in its own slot. Send convex edges to a sharpener who works on Japanese convex edges. See the care guide.
