Mina is an independent Japanese brand at the entry end of our range. Every Mina shear is SUS440C stainless steel at 58 HRC, mostly on an offset handle, in lengths from 4.5″ to 7.0″. The lines change the edge, the finish and the handle, not the steel.
Who Mina is for
Apprentices buying a first professional kit, and working barbers who want a spare pair, a second-station shear or a cutter for the mobile bag. Mina gives you the right length and handle to learn on without paying for premium steel while you train. Once you know your length and cut all day, keep the Mina as the backup and compare a premium cutter for the main pair.
The Mina lines
- Sakura II: convex edge, offset handle, 5.0″ to 7.0″. The Sakura II cutter is our best-selling shear, and the Sakura II set pairs it with a 6.0″ thinner.
- Sakura Double Swivel: the Sakura blade with a double-swivel thumb. The Double Swivel cutter suits barbers who already cut with a moving handle.
- Black Diamond: a flat bevel edge in a black finish. The flat edge holds the hair for blunt lines and scissor-over-comb. See the Black Diamond cutter and its cutter and thinner kit.
- Ash Black: a convex cutter and matching thinner in black, sold singly or as the Ash Black set.
- Umi: a flat cutting edge, with a V-tooth thinner for all-round blending.
- Rainbow II: a convex blade under a rainbow finish.
- Thinners: Jay II, Ash Black, Classic II and Umi, all SUS440C. The Mina Jay II is the simplest add-on to a Sakura cutter.
- Cases: felt pouches for two or four shears, such as the Mina Dual Felt Case.
Price tier
Mina is our entry-level tier. Most Mina cutters and sets sit in the shears under $200 collection, and the master sets step just above it. That makes it the usual first kit and the usual spare.
Care and servicing
SUS440C is a straightforward stainless steel. Wipe each shear after every client, oil the pivot at the end of the day and store it closed in its own slot. When the edge starts to push or fold hair, send it for sharpening: we do not sharpen in-house, and the sharpener questions help you choose a service. Faults are covered by our warranty.
