Shear Care

Hands wiping a closed shear with a cloth at a workstation.
Clear hair and product, clean as directed, dry fully and care for the pivot before storage.

What should I do after a shift?

Wipe away hair and moisture, check the pivot for trapped hair, and store the shear closed in a dry case. Add a small drop of scissor oil at the pivot when it needs it; wipe off the excess. Follow the maker’s care instructions for your model. Our maintenance guide has the full routine.

Does location change the routine?

Humidity can leave moisture on stored tools; dust can gather at the pivot. The climate guide and quick reference give practical checks for your area.

When should I book sharpening?

Judge by the cut. If the shear starts pushing hair or catching at the tips, stop and have a sharpener experienced with that edge inspect it. Our sharpening guide explains what to watch for. We do not run a sharpening service; the service directory can help you find one.

Work through the routine: remove hair, clean and dry the blades, apply scissor oil if recommended, then close and protect the tool.
